Many accounts have been reported about sightings and encounters of wild beasts many times. The story we are about to read is not one such encounter. But this story is, however, about a strange encounter on a rural highway ending with a very surprising result.
On that very night, Kathy Wilkes-Meyers did not expect to have any such incident happen to her, she had never even imagined that such a random encounter would eventually lead her to what she discovered…
A Stroll In The Evening
On one ordinary day, Kathy Wilkes-Meyers made up her mind to go for an evening walk around her country street. Since it was a quiet street, she was enjoying the peace and calm quite a lot. She saw something that was a little ahead of her: a dark shape lurking at the side of the road across the way.
Dark And Mysterious
On the side of the drainage ditch, Katherine saw a dark figure that immediately hooked her interest. It looked very distressed with its four paws and dark black fur. The figure was indeed a dog, a Rottweiler in fact, and as Kathy moved towards it, the dog raised its head from it’s drinking to take a look at her.
A Skinny Rottweiler
Across for her, when Kathy spotted the dog, it had fleas and tick seemed to cover her body. She was skittish at a distance but soon trotted over to Kathy and began wagging her tail. The Rottweiler had a behavior that convinced Kathy to believe that she was no ordinary stray.
She Was Somebody’s Dog
“I could just tell right away she was somebody’s baby,” explained Kathy. She was not behaving like other strays. She was not tense, or timid, suspicious or even aggressive. There was only excitement in her. The thought of what may have happened to the dog made Kathy very upset.
On The Dumping Ground
In Tennessee, the location where Kathy rescued the dog was actually a common place where people dump their unwanted pets. Since it is secluded and a little far off, there is no way of returning fro them. This unnecessary cruelty is indeed offensive. Thankfully animal shelters are always there to help out.
Getting Fed and Given Water
She took the dog to the local shelter where she was bathed and her ticks were removed. After that, the dog was given water and fed and later made to rest. Shortly, the Rottie’s health began to bounce back, but when she took her home, Kathy still found that something was still not completely right.
The Dog Was Acting Strange
After getting all the help, the dog still showed signs of stress. As soon as she woke up from her sleep, the dog wanted to go back to the woods signaling Kathy to take her there. The savior felt like maybe the dog had hidden something. There was something out there that the dog wanted to get back to.
A Local Tragedy
After taking the dog back to the woods, Kathy found a piece of broken glass on the side of the road, in addition to a tail light. Then Kathy remembered there had been a car crash in that area recently, one that had been so destructive that it was even on the news two weeks back.
Kathy was right, the stray dog might not have been abandoned at all, but a member of the family whose car had crashed. When she looked into the accident further, Kathy found out that the family that had met with the accident were the Kelleys.
Joe and Michelle Kelley and their whole family of three kids with their Rottweiler named Ella went out. Michelle Kelley was driving but when she hit the breaks, it caused her car to circle out of control, slamming into the side of a mountain…
The Mountain Bash
From what she could dig up, Kathy’s guesses were that there was no way a person could have survived a crash like that. How could Ella survive all that too? But here she was, still alive and well and looking for her family. Then Kathy called the highway patrol for help.
The Emergency Crews
Kathy found out that the emergency crew came to help the family on the site of the crash. Meanwhile, poor Ella had apparently been thrown from the car and was therefore never picked up by the rescue team. It seems she had wandered the woods for some 13 days or so.
Ella had probably zoomed away after getting so frightened and shocked. Ella spent her duration in the woods scrounging around the crash site for any object that smelled like her family. As soon as she could get Kathy close to the area, she pulled her in
Going Back To The Location
The dog took Kathy into the woods, leading her over to a pile of random belongings that it appeared had belonged to the Kelley family. A comb, toothbrush, razor, even a candle were all there and they all smelled like her people, so Ella kept them.
The Family Leftovers
Ella did not lose her spirit even after going through such a stressful ordeal. Deep inside, maybe the dog knew she would be reunited with her beloved owners. Sadly, Kathy was not so sure if any of the Kelley family members had survived the crash.
Who And Where Are They?
In the woods, Kathy did not know the name of the family whose car had crashed nor did she even know Ella’s name. The only items she could use for reference were these items. So she picked through the personal items for anything, hoping she could get some clue.
Finding Ella’s Family
After going through the family items, Kathy discovered a notepad with an insurance agent’s name upon it. She looked him up and he directed her to the Kelley family. Still, it could be a dead end. Could anyone have survived the tragic accident?
Kathy Was Wrong
Kathy’s uncertainty about the family’s fate was cleared off. Five people had indeed survived the car crash. The entire Kelley family, Joe, Michelle, and all three children had been pulled from the wreck and were hospitalized. Ella could finally be with her family once again
The Emotional Reunion
The Kelley family, after a few days, got to have their beloved dog, whom they had thought was dead, back in their arms again. Both parties were extremely ecstatic to find each other again. Sadly, even their reunion was marred by some unwelcome news.
On Her Part
The medical expenses paid by the Kelley family resulted in a tiny issue. Because of the amount of debt they incurred, they had shifted to a location where the dog was not allowed. Kathy, fortunately, came to the rescue yet again, agreeing to take good care of Ella for as long as the Kelleys need to get back on their feet.
